What Mediation is:
Mediation is a process in which a neutral third-party assists the communication between two or more other parties in resolving a dispute. The focus is on issues of the dispute and to generate options, which meets the interest of the parties involved.
The mediator does not make a decision, as in arbitration, but facilitates to define the agenda and helps find areas of common ground. The final implementation of the mediated agreement rests with the commitment of the parties.

In the fast majority of people, depression is a build-up of stress, factors that can increase the severity of depression are- not communicating, multiple demands pressuring your life, no time to relax, lack of self confidence, a predisposition to personality characteristics such as worry or anxiety.
Depression is a perfectly normal response, is usually short lived and responds rapidly without any specific treatment.
Depressive illness on the other hand, is much more sever and prolonged, it affects about 20% of people at some stage in their life and may need to repair damaged chemistry with appropriate medication. A combination of your own efforts, medication and psychotherapy, produces much better results than either approach on their own.
